Displaying Fabrication/ Fabricating Displays

RISD INTAR 23ST-03 Advanced Design Studio
Spring Term 2026

MI+MA Studio recognizes the importance of lightness and adaptability in exhibition design, with particular attention to traveling exhibitions. Students examine how these display systems, micro-architectures, can produce social impact through public engagement and programming.

In Part 01 of the studio, students examined groundbreaking exhibition designs and analyzed them through their materiality and construction logic. Then they investigated how these micro-architectures are disassembled, reassembled, and reinterpreted across different contexts.

In Part 2, they experimented with both analog and AI-assisted workflows to reinterpret these historical precedents and develop new display systems.

And in Part 03, they built their 1:1 scale display units with all the developed details. They also worked on the layout/spatial organization of these display systems in order to speculate on how they can act as platforms for public engagement and community interaction.
